Monthly Shiva Puja Information

Chinmaya Mission San Jose conducts a monthly Shiva Puja on the 2nd Monday of each month at 7.30 p.m. unless notified otherwise. Puja will be held at our Sandeepany ashram in San Jose, located at 1050 Park Avenue, San Jose, CA 95126. For details, please visit http://www.chinmaya-sanjose.org

Puja Sponsorship & Contact Information

Those who wish to sponsor the Puja should contact Subbu Venkatkrishnan or Ramkumar Subramanian at least one week prior to the puja. Since each puja can have only one sponsor, sponsors are requested to make their reservations at the earliest. The suggested donation for sponsorship is $101. Sponshorship checks should be made payable to Chinmaya Mission San Jose. 

Sponsor Dos and Don’ts

  • Sponsors are requested to arrive at Sandeepany no later than 7.15 p.m.
  • The dress code is traditional Indian attire
  • Sponsors are welcome to bring flowers, milk, and prasad of their choice. These items will be used for the puja.

Puja Details

 

1.      Puja will start at 7.30 p.m. sharp with either Subbu or Ramkumar performing

a.       Chanting of the Dakshinamurthi stotram

b.      Sankalpam, Kalasha puja (pot containing holy  water from the 7 great rivers), Sankha (conch) puja, Atma (Self) puja and Peeta (altar) Puja

c.       Laghunyasam and Avahanam

2.      The sponsors will then be invited to the altar to perform the abhisekam to Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha with:

a.       Chanting of the Rudram and Chamakam

b.      Chanting of the Shiva Mahimna Stotram or Purusha Suktham/ Narayana Suktham/ Durga Suktham  while doing alankaram to the Lord

c.       Performing archana while chanting the names of Ganesha and Krishna and 108 names of Lord Shiva.

d.      Arati/Deeparadhana

3.      The last part of the Puja, including Ashirvadam, will be performed by Subbu or Ramkumar with the final prasad being offered to the sponsors who can then take the blessings of Lord Shiva and Br. Prabodh Chaitanya.

Other Information

Photographs will be taken during the puja and given to the sponsors.
