Krishnalaya (directions) is located in the town of Piercy, California, 200 miles north of San Francisco and just south of Humboldt State College. Eureka is the nearest major city to the north; Ukiah lies to the south. The town of Garberville is ten miles north. The famous redwood ‘Avenue of the Giants’ is fifteen miles from the retreat. The ashram buildings were originally used as a motel. The site was purchased for use by Chinmaya Mission over a decade ago, and now houses their main retreat facility in North America. In 1992, Gurudev conducted a six-week yagna on the entire Bhagvad Gita (resulting in video tapes) in Krishnalaya. Gurudev's kutia is also located in Krishnalaya. This kutia is open to visitors, and many of his devotees and even others who had never met him feel his presence there very strongly. Chinmaya Mission West’s spiritual retreat at Krishnalaya reflects the serenity of the surrounding hills. Nestled in eight acres along the Eel River in a redwood setting of Mendocino County, Krishnalaya is perfect for camps and retreats. Summer and early fall are warm and sunny. Spring weather is changeable with cool, misty nights. One must be prepared for rain in winter.
